Pildora founder Christina Almeida started 2019 with a bang, working full swing on a new version of Pildora. She had always planned on it growing organically, and as it did, she realized Pildora was no longer just events—it was fashion, a lifestyle, and a community. During our annual event, FashionAbility, Christina made the decision and set the date to launch a brand new website, Pildora.nyc.
As this decade comes to an end, we’re looking back at 2019 and reflecting on everything that brought us to this moment. A moment where we are ready to take this to the next level and launch our brand new site and marketplace. A moment where we find ourselves asking, “How did we get here?” Well, it’s been quite an eventful and impactful year! Let’s take a peek.
FashionAbility was the first event of the year, taking place on February 7. This event brings together impactful people from all over the world with the intention of starting conversations about sustainability through a night filled with sustainable fashion, art, music, and movement. As the doors opened for the event, our new site, Pildora.nyc, launched. We were no longer just events!
The event inspired buzz all around. With Pildora’s continued growth, Christina came to the realization it was time to expand the team from a group of interns to one full-time employee. In April, she hired Rachel Fritz as the first official employee to help develop Pildora!
That same month, Rachel took off to EarthX on behalf of Pildora. EarthX is the largest environmental expo in the world and takes place in Dallas, Texas. Rachel arrived excited and ready to spread the word about Pildora to those in the sustainability community.
Then it was May, a month filled with change and excitement. The first official office setting was established in a conscious co-working space called The Assemblage! Here, Rachel and Christina embarked on a beautiful time of growth, surrounded by like-minded individuals.
That same month, one of Pildora’s editorials was published in Vogue Italia. This shoot featured one of Pildora’s designers, House Dress, and the Pildora mission was showcased on a national scale.
Christina Graduates From Parsons
At the end of May, Christina graduated from her master’s program at Parson’s The New School with a degree in Strategic Design and Management. While other students prepared for the job hunt, she dove headfirst into working full-time on Pildora.
Pildora Moves Into a New Space
In July, we transformed Christina’s Manhattan loft of two years into Pildora Studio! The co-working space was great, but the energy in the loft is unlike any other, and with high ceilings, it was perfectly fit to become our studio. We started producing more and more editorials at this point.
Also in July, at our Sustainable ArtxFashion event, we announced the opening of a shop on Pildora. At this event, impactful artwork was curated by Michael Murphy, Daniel Harington Jr., and Pildora Pioneer Brana Dane. There was also a performance featuring Pildora designer MInus Us.
After the event, we launched the beta test for shopping on Pildora. We finally saw our vision become a reality, and it was an epic moment for us at Pildora. But really, this was a time to test the marketplace and to gather feedback.
Premier Vision + Pause Pop-Up
In September, Christina traveled to Europe. During this very meaningful trip, she attended the Pause Pop up in London, where she met many designers, and she experienced her first Premiere Vision convention in Paris.
Back in NYC, it was time to keep growing our team. After interviewing many applicants, we found Catherine Barcheski! Catherine, who specializes in sales, was brought on to help us manage and grow the Pildora marketplace.
A Night In Mexico Gala
As we approached the end of the year, it was time for one more push. With just a couple weeks until the official launch of our marketplace, we held our first-ever fundraiser. On December 7, we hosted A Night in Mexico gala to benefit the Vida Digna Foundation.
This event was created to support the Rarámuri indigenous people of Chihuahua, Mexico, where Christina is from, and to celebrate Mexican culture, all in one beautiful evening. It was a perfect night and was the start of a long-term relationship we will be building to support Mexico.
All of these experiences led us to now. And as we move into this decade, we are so excited to announce that Pildora.com, a sustainable fashion marketplace, will be officially launching in January 2020. We so look forward to fulfilling your every sustainable fashion need at Pildora, and providing you with a wardrobe for a better world!
